Chelsea have also looked at Presnel Kimpembe, Josko Gvardiol, Jose Giminez, Declan Rice, Aurelien Tchouameni and Marc Cucurella ahead of the window.

There is an understanding around the club that Todd Boehly is ambitious and wants to keep competing for titles.

Kounde, 22, swapped Bordeaux for Sevilla in 2019 and quickly established himself as one of the finest young centre-backs in Spain, helping the club win the Europa League in what was an outstanding debut season.

The sought-after Frenchman picked up where he left off this term with a string of accomplished displays alongside Diego Carlos and the club’s impressive defensive record was key as Julen Lopetegui’s men secured Champions League qualification with a fourth-placed finish.

The gifted defender’s profile is likely to grow further still this summer after he received his first international call-up for France’s European Championships campaign.

‘Regarding my future, it’s certain that I will perhaps have to change clubs this summer,’ Kounde told reporters at France’s Clairefontaine training camp.

‘But nothing has been finalised yet. I have not decided anything.

‘My goal is to play for a big club, to try to always progress and to win trophies.

‘It’s true that I might have to move but that’s not relevant today.’

Chelsea could sign attackers, but that only depends on player sales.

Kounde has a verbal agreement in place regarding a move to Stamford Bridge after the deal could not be reached last year.

Sevilla need to raise £38 million before June 30 and are asking for £59 million for the French international.

The Spanish side are keen to complete a deal quickly so that they can act fast and get a replacement for Kounde in before too long.

This comes as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are set to depart the club upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of the season.

Jules Kounde’s message is well heard as Chelsea is et to finalise his transfer deal once the takeover process is successful
