Eight-time champion Germany faces upstart host England on Sunday in the 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship final. The Germans started 2022 in poor form but have battled to their ninth final in the past 10 years (they won all eight), but the Brits will have the home crowd backing them at Wembley Stadium as they seek their first major women’s soccer trophy. England routed Sweden 4-0 in Tuesday’s semifinal after rallying for a 2-1 extra-time victory against Spain in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Germany edged France 2-1 in its semifinal on Wednesday, following a 2-0 victory against Austria. Each team has allowed one goal in the first five matches, and each has one of the tournament’s top scorers, with Alexandra Popp leading the way for Germany and Beth Mead being the go-to attacker for England.
