This weekend sees the Emirates Cup return, with Arsenal taking on Sevilla at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon in their final pre-season fixture.

Arsenal take on Sevilla in their only home fixture of this year’s pre season – it will be the last friendly before the season gets underway next weekend.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping his team can end their promising summer on a high when they take on the Spanish side in north London in front of a sell-out crowd.

Arsenal will be clashing against Crystal Palace in the Premier League next Friday. As a result, the North London club will have at least one week to prepare for the EPL opener.

The Mikel Arteta’s side have played five club friendlies ahead of next season. Meanwhile, they remain unbeaten and continue their winning streak. As a result, they are most likely to defeat the La Liga side on Saturday.

The Gunners have lifted the trophy in five of the previous 10 Emirates Cup tournaments, while Los Palanganas took the runners-up spot in 2017.

During the era of the four-tournament Emirates Cup, Arsenal got their hands on the trophy in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2017, but Sevilla are no strangers to facing North London opposition.

With new signings Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko already having the desired impact, Arsenal beat Ipswich Town, Everton, Nuremberg and Orlando City before once again putting four goals past Chelsea in a pre-season romping earlier this month.

The injury curse has still been bedevilling some of Arsenal’s regular treatment room occupants this summer, as Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both still doubts for the Premier League opener and should not be risked on Saturday.

Emile Smith Rowe is also nursing a muscular niggle, while new signing Fabio Vieira is yet to make his debut for the club due to an ankle issue, and he is highly unlikely to recover in time for the Emirates Cup either.

Arteta played down concerns of an injury for Gabriel Jesus after he was taken off early against Chelsea, but Eddie Nketiah – who scored Arsenal’s solitary goal in Wednesday’s loss to Brentford – is ready to don the red and white jersey if his strike partner is not risked.

Sevilla have also been involved in one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer, with defender Jules Kounde being heavily linked to Chelsea before opting to join Barcelona. They have also lost their other centre-back from last season, Diego Carlos, to Aston Villa and will be keen to see the progress of new defensive signing Marcão, who has joined from Galatasaray.
