The Three Lions fell behind in the Nations League contest to Ilkay Gundogan’s penalty, awarded after a poor Harry Maguire challenge on Jamal Musiala, early in the second half. Havertz doubled the lead with a superb strike in the 67th minute, putting Die Mannschaft firmly in control.

However, the introductions of Bukayo Saka and Mason Mount transformed the match, and Luke Shaw bundled the ball over the line to halve the deficit. Mount then drew England level with a quarter of an hour remaining, before Harry Kane struck from the penalty spot to send Wembley into frenzy.

The mood was dampened as Havertz pounced on a Nick Pope error to level the score at 3-3 with seconds remaining.
